Deciding to go Experimental

I'll definitely add more on this topic as my Blog grows. I've decided to build an experimental airplane, the Van's Aircraft RV-7(a). The (a) designates that the plane will have a nosewheel, deleting the 7 designates a tailwheel airplane.

There are so many decisions to make when choosing to build an airplane. Luckily, Van's Airplanes www.vansaircraft.com make it simple for you. The biggest decision I've had to make besides which kit manufacture is 1. the model 2. the priming system (more on that later).

I've spent many hours reading http://www.vansairforce.com/ This site is the one stop for any RV builder. I was able to locate the start of my RV-7 on this site (more later).

I really think my situation is similiar to many others. We spend way too much time thinking, analysing & fantasing the possibility of building your own plane. Then suddenly, you have parts and tools arriving at your home and you haven't even started clearing space to work on the plane yet!

I hope to share my thought and processes with family/friends and fellow RV builders. I think that this might also be an OK way to Document/Log the Build for the FAA. The FAA wants to know who actually completed 51% or more of the plane's build. So, there will be plenty of construction pics including me. While I'm nothing to look at, I know plane people get excited at seeing pics of spars, ribs, paint/prime systems, etc...

Family calls, so more later...
